Do you teach in person and online?

Yes, in person and online. Face to face sessions usually take place from The Sussex Piano School just outside of Lewes in East Sussex and I also travel to students homes as needed. For students  located a long distance away or when face to face is not practical then I teach via video call. Mostly I prefer to use Zoom via high speed internet connection and multi-camera setup though other setups are also possible. I also do guest sessions at various venues by arrangment.

How long are lessons?

Most lessons are 1hr long but this is adjusted to suit. For some younger learners 30-40minute sessions work well whereas for some more advanced students longer sessions are more beneficial to cover the necessary material.

What level of student do you work with?

Beginners to advanced. Students range from young players taking up piano as a first foray into music through to adults returning to continue their musical journey, some are at music college looking to break into the industry and others are well established professionals looking to refine repertoire and continue professional development. Some students just study for fun and some compete in competitions and commercially.

Do your students take exams?

Some do and some don't, some dip in and out of exams, some do them back to back. It entirely depends on the students' individual goals and learning preferences. Where a student does chose to take exams we'll support them all the way as well as carefully looking at feedback and integrating the whole experience into their musical journey.

What do you teach?

Material covered is always carefully tailored to suit specific needs of each student. Typical topcis covered include technique, stylistic skills, repertoire development, aural skills, music theory, improvisation, sight reading, composition and songwriting, performance skills, recording and production techniques and musical direction as works for them.

How much do lessons cost?

1-2-1 tutition (including instrumental lessons, music theory, songwriting, music technology, GCSE and A-level support sessions) is based on a sliding fee scale where most students pay between £60-100/hour with a minimum fee of £60/hour (+ travel/time where applicable) depending on circumstances.

Pricing for all other services including group sessions, lectures, workshops, performance, accompaniment, recording services and other professional services are by arrangement.
